Extirpate Rules Text & Legality
Split second (As long as this spell is on the stack, players can't cast spells or activate abilities that aren't mana abilities.)
Choose target card in a graveyard other than a basic land card. Search its owner's graveyard, hand, and library for all cards with the same name as that card and exile them. Then that player shuffles.
Extirpate is legal in Modern, Legacy and Commander, and not legal in Standard, Pioneer and Pauper.
Extirpate Rulings
- Mar 19, 2021 After a spell with split second resolves (or otherwise leaves the stack), players may again cast spells and activate abilities before the next object on the stack resolves.
- Mar 19, 2021 Because the first step of casting a spell is to move it from the zone it's in, Extirpate can't be used to stop a spell with flashback from being cast after its controller has announced that they're casting it.
- Mar 19, 2021 Casting a spell with split second won't affect spells and abilities that are already on the stack.
- Mar 19, 2021 If the resolution of a triggered ability involves casting a spell, that spell can't be cast if a spell with split second is on the stack.
