Crop Rotation
Instant · Uncommon
This is a lands-matter combo piece pretending to be a fixing spell, and it deserves the side-eye it gets on the Game Changers list.
Why now
For one mana at instant speed, you sacrifice a land and go get any land in your deck, straight onto the battlefield. That's not ramp, that's a tutor with a body.
What it does
You lose a land, but you put any land from your library directly into play, no summoning sickness on the land itself, and you can do it in response to something. For decks built around a single, specific land payoff, that's a tutor for your whole game plan.
Where it shines
Field of the Dead decks and Dark Depths style combos want this the most. You're not looking for 'a good land,' you're looking for the one land that wins or warps the game, and Crop Rotation gets it every time.
Plays well with
- Field of the Dead does nothing until it's on the battlefield with enough other land names in play, and Crop Rotation gets it there without waiting on a natural draw.
- Talon Gates rewards being fetched into play, and Crop Rotation delivers it at instant speed exactly when you need the protection or the ramp.
- Sacrificing a land to Crop Rotation feeds Titania's landfall triggers on the way to finding whatever land actually wins the game.
The catch
Outside of a deck built to abuse one specific land, this is card disadvantage dressed up as fixing. If your deck doesn't have a busted land payoff, this card does nothing for you.
