Helm of the Host
Legendary Artifact — Equipment · Rare
Six mana to turn on isn't cheap, but the ceiling is a second commander every turn or an infinite combo, and that's not a fair trade for most tables.
Why now
Eight years out from Dominaria and this equipment is still the reason certain legendary creature decks get to cheat the game's action limit entirely.
What it does
Every combat, you get a fresh nonlegendary hasty copy of whatever's wearing the Helm, permanently, stacking up extra bodies or extra triggers each turn it stays equipped.
Where it shines
Legendary-creature commander decks where the commander's ETB or attack trigger is the whole plan. Equip it to your commander and every combat becomes a second copy of that value engine, no legend rule conflict because the token isn't legendary.
Plays well with
- Aurelia's extra combat trigger on the token copy chains into more tokens and more combats, spiraling into infinite combat phases.
- Equip Scourge of the Throne at five life or less and its extra-combat trigger plus the Helm's token copy loop into infinite combat steps.
- Godo tutors up the Helm and, once equipped, the combo wins outright with exactly 11 total mana in play.
The catch
Nine mana total to cast and equip before it does anything, and it's a sorcery-speed setup piece that does nothing the turn you play it, so it's dead in your hand against any real removal or a fast table.
