The line

Underworld Breach has been a fixture in cEDH and high-power Commander since Theros Beyond Death, and players keep asking how to break it. The answer is: pair it with something that fills the graveyard fast, because the card does all its work in a single turn window before it sacrifices itself at the beginning of the end step.

What it does

Every nonland card in your graveyard gets escape, meaning you can recast each one for its normal mana cost plus exiling three other cards from your graveyard. Chain enough cheap spells together with a full enough yard, and you're effectively replaying your entire deck. The enchantment sacrifices itself at the beginning of the end step, so the window is urgent but enormous within a single turn.

Where it shines

The flagship line is Breach plus Lion's Eye Diamond plus Brain Freeze, which mills your library, then closes with Thassa's Oracle. A second well-known line runs Breach with Lion's Eye Diamond and Wheel of Fortune for infinite looping that lets you dig to any win condition. Both show up in cEDH shells where the whole gameplan is assembling three cards and ending the game on the spot.

Plays well with

The catch

Graveyard hate completely dismantles it. A Leyline of the Void or a well-timed Rest in Peace leaves you holding a two-mana enchantment that does nothing. In metas where hate pieces are common, Breach becomes a liability rather than a threat.
