Doctor Doom
Legendary Creature — Human Scientist Villain · Mythic
Doctor Doom is a self-protecting, card-drawing, token-flooding value engine that looks like a Limited bomb and a legitimate Commander option, but the build constraints are real and the jury is still out.
The buzz
Marvel Super Heroes releases in two days, and Doctor Doom is one of the cards generating the most discussion before anyone has actually played it.
What it does
Six mana gets you a 3/3 plus two 3/3 Doombot tokens. As long as you control any artifact creature (and the Doombots qualify), Doom has indestructible. At the beginning of each of your end steps, you draw a card and lose 1 life.
Where it shines
Artifact-creature-heavy black Commander decks that want a resilient threat with built-in card advantage. The Doombots fulfill Doom's own indestructible condition immediately, so you rarely have to work to keep him protected. Any token or artifact synergy you layer on top is gravy.
The catch
Indestructible is conditional, not permanent. Exile, sacrifice effects, and board wipes that don't destroy will bypass it entirely, and if your artifact creatures are cleared first, Doom loses the protection before you can respond. The card is also unproven in actual play, so anyone building around it right now is working on theory, not results.
