Mana Geyser
Sorcery · Common
In multiplayer this is a better Dark Ritual than Dark Ritual, and it costs less than a pack of basics.
The deal
Still sitting around a buck, still doing the same absurd thing it did on release: turn a table full of tapped lands into your own private ritual.
What it does
You tap five mana to cast it, but you get back a red mana for every tapped land your opponents control, which in a four-player pod after everyone's untapped and played a land or two can mean flooding your mana pool with red well past what you spent.
Where it shines
Storm and big-red-spell decks want this, whether that's fueling a wheel-heavy storm plan or the Reiterate buyback line that generates effectively infinite red mana to close the game with something like Crackle with Power.
Plays well with
- Cast Mana Geyser, hold priority, copy it with Reiterate's buyback, and you can loop the pair for effectively infinite red mana.
- Both are mana-doubling-style rituals that fuel the same buyback loop, giving the combo a second way to generate the initial burst of red.
- The infinite red mana from the Reiterate loop is exactly what you need to X-spell the table with a maximally kicked Crackle with Power.
The catch
It's dead or nearly dead if you cast it early before opponents have tapped out, and in a stax or slow pod where lands stay untapped, you can spend five mana to get back three or four.
