Agatha's Soul Cauldron
Legendary Artifact · Mythic
This is a value engine that turns into a combo piece the moment you start feeding it the right creature cards, and that flexibility is why it still costs what it costs two years after Wilds of Eldraine.
The line
Get one +1/+1 counter on a creature and one good activated ability into exile, and you've handed that creature a second job it was never printed with.
What it does
Tap to exile a card from a graveyard, and if that card is a creature, drop a +1/+1 counter on something you control. Any creature with a counter on it inherits every activated ability of every creature card you've exiled this way, and you can pay for any activated ability your creatures have using mana of any color.
Where it shines
Counters decks and graveyard-adjacent value shells where you're already exiling creature cards and dropping +1/+1 counters as a matter of course. Every activation is a two-for-one: hate a graveyard, upgrade a threat.
Plays well with
- Exile it with the Cauldron and any creature carrying a +1/+1 counter gains its transform ability, letting you activate a flip you never paid a creature slot for.
- Combined with Lórien Revealed exiled under the Cauldron, the granted ability plus Intruder Alarm's untap trigger opens up a loop that keeps generating value or counters.
- Not a direct combo, but Citadel is the kind of build-around artifact that shares a shelf with the Cauldron in decks whose whole game plan hinges on one specific piece resolving.
The catch
It does nothing the turn it lands. You need a creature with a counter already in play and a worthwhile activated ability already in exile before this does anything but strip a graveyard.
