Why now

Every green creature deck eventually asks the same question: do I have seven mana and a board? Craterhoof Behemoth is the answer, and it's the reason a lot of 'casual tribal' decks kill on turn 4.

What it does

It gives your whole board trample and a power and toughness boost equal to your creature count, so a wide board turns into lethal damage in one swing.

Where it shines

Elfball and token strategies: dump mana dorks or tokens onto the board, cast this, attack for more than anyone expects.

Plays well with

The catch

You need bodies already in play for it to matter. Cast it into an empty board and it's just a vanilla beater with haste.
