Edgar Markov
Legendary Creature · Vampire Knight
The reason Edgar keeps coming up has nothing to do with attacking. His Eminence works from the command zone, so every other Vampire spell you cast adds a 1/1 Vampire to the board before Edgar ever shows up. That's the quiet engine behind the whole archetype.

The take
Edgar is the Vampire tribal commander that makes every cheap Vampire in your deck worth two bodies, and the rest of the deck is built around that one rate.

Plays well with
-
Cordial Vampire
It's a cheap Vampire, so every cast triggers Eminence for an extra token, and the tribe's counters from Edgar's attacks keep both growing.
-
Knight of the Ebon Legion
A low-drop creature that fits the aggressive plan, and as a Vampire spell it feeds Eminence on the way down.
-
Sanctum Seeker
It's a Vampire that rewards a wide board of them, so the tokens Edgar makes turn into real pressure.

Edgar Markov Rulings
- Jan 24, 2025
Edgar Markov’s eminence ability is a triggered ability. Edgar must be on the battlefield or in the command zone when you cast another Vampire spell and also as the triggered ability resolves. If it’s on the battlefield or in the command zone when you cast another Vampire spell but leaves that zone before the ability resolves, the ability won’t do anything as it resolves.
- Jan 24, 2025
Notably, if Edgar Markov is on the battlefield and its eminence ability triggers, but it’s put into the command zone before that ability resolves, that ability won’t do anything as it resolves. This is because an object that changes zones is considered a new object.
